Culture around Lake Mburo National Park Uganda

Culture around Lake Mburo National Park Uganda, Cultural Encounters in Lake Mburo Park, Uganda Cultural Safari Adventures. Located in the traditional rangelands of the Bahima Pastoralists who cherished the area for grazing their unique breed – the Ankole long horned cattle, Lake Mburo National Park has got rich cultural encounters both within and its environs.

The geographical features inside the park like the ancient Precambrian rocks which date to 500 million years back, the unique sites like the Kazuma hill, the Lake like Mburo with its legendary history not forgetting the extended flat landscapes of open savannah have for long been at the center of worship and belief for the local people and have got a rich cultural and heritage attachment to the indigenous inhabitants of those lands.

Considering outside the park, the people who were settling in the park land were evicted and most of them settled around its boundaries. Their traditions have not been lost completely and there is great heritage that is associated with them. Their traditional activity of pastoralism keeping the traditional long horned Ankole cattle has for long formed the center of their lives.

Most of their daily routine activities rotate around the cows and though there has been some bit of diversification to tap into the crop farming, few people involve themselves directly in digging and its associated activities. They hire labor to work on the crop gardens especially the banana plantations which is the most common.

These people traditionally thrived alongside the wild game with little or no effect as they did not consume the wild meat. However, they had conflicts with predators; like lions which threatened their lives and that of livestock. They have impressive, music dance and drama that can be encountered while on safari tour in Uganda.

The swinging of their arms in the air symbolized the horns of their cows, they have flowing song and citations which traditionally featured their beautiful cows, impressive grazing lands or catastrophic events like prolonged drought, famine, wars among others. Their literature like any other traditional Africans was centered on educating the young ones and molding them to grow up in the right manner.

The Banyankole also have impressive arts and crafts ranging from the milk pit string holders, to the pot lids, to the milk pots themselves, the ceramics, brush for cows, not forgetting how they crafted their traditional architectural huts among other impressive features that make the group worthy encountering while on safari in Uganda.

The Enyemebwa center which was put up of recent to enhance the conservation of the threatened Ankole long horned cattle is located close to the park on the Nshaara gate and brings out the typical traditional experience of these people and also organizes community interactive encounters and highly experiential tours that will leave out nothing for a cultural traveller on Uganda safari.
